988 Day of Visibility on June 16, 2022
Do you know what is happening with 988 in the State of South Carolina? Are we ready?
–> 988 will finally be available nationwide on July 16 as a number for people to call or text during a mental health, substance use or suicide crisis. We know that having an easy-to-remember, three-digit number will help more people connect to trained counselors during a crisis. But many people are still unaware of 988 or what will and won’t be available in their community.
The 988 Day of Visibility — Thursday, June 16 — is about raising awareness with the public and policymakers about the need to fund not just the 988 call centers, but a full crisis system of care. We will be pushing for awareness of what a mental health crisis response could be – and how we get there.
Why? Because everyone experiencing a mental health crisis should receive a mental health response.
Read more here about implementation, what crisis response should look like and how you can advocate for more resources and services in your area. 988 is coming, it is a phenomenal idea but are the resources we need available to support the crisis response teams and call centers that will be getting the calls? How can we help to advocate for the best services and timely responses?
